Terms of service
Last updated 2 October 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and JG Development Services Limited (company number 09862129, registered office Belmont Suite, Paragon Business Park, Chorley New Road, Horwich, Bolton, BL6 6HG), which runs Receipt Relay ("we", "us"). By connecting your FreeAgent account, you agree to them.
1. The service
Receipt Relay gives you a private email address. Receipts and invoices sent to it from addresses you've approved are read by an AI model and filed in your FreeAgent account as bills, bank transactions or expenses, with the original attached.
Receipt Relay is an independent product. It isn't affiliated with or endorsed by FreeAgent, and connects to FreeAgent through its official API with your permission.
2. Who can use it
Receipt Relay is for businesses: sole traders, partnerships and companies using it for their business. You must not use it as a consumer. If you accept these terms for a company, you confirm you're allowed to.
3. Checking what's filed
Receipt Relay uses AI to read documents, and AI can make mistakes. Everything it files is an ordinary FreeAgent record, and you're responsible for checking your records before relying on them, for example before filing a VAT return or accounts. Where it has worked something out rather than read it from the receipt, such as VAT, it says so in the record.
Receipt Relay doesn't give accounting or tax advice. If you're unsure how something should be treated, ask your accountant.
4. Your responsibilities
- Only send documents you're entitled to send and that relate to your business.
- Keep your forwarding address and approved email addresses up to date, and remove addresses you no longer control.
- Don't try to misuse, overload, or get around the security of the service, or use it to send spam or anything unlawful.
5. Price
Receipt Relay is free during launch. If we start charging, we'll tell you by email at least 30 days before, and nothing will be charged unless you choose to carry on.
6. Availability and changes
We work to keep Receipt Relay running reliably, but we can't promise it'll always be available or that every email will be filed. If something can't be filed, we'll normally email you to say so. We may change or improve the service; if a change significantly reduces what it does for you, we'll tell you in advance.
7. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't be limited by law.
Otherwise, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, revenue or data, and our total liability to you under these terms is limited to the greater of £100 and what you've paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
8. Ending
You can stop at any time by deleting your account in your settings, or by disconnecting Receipt Relay in FreeAgent. We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms, or close the service with at least 30 days' notice. Records already filed in FreeAgent stay there.
9. Data processing
The documents you send can contain personal data, such as names and addresses on invoices. For that data, you are the controller and we are your processor, and this section forms the data processing agreement required by UK data protection law (Article 28 of the UK GDPR). The data is processed only to read and file your documents, for as long as you use the service, and is mostly about your suppliers, customers and staff.
We will:
- process it only to provide the service as you've instructed, unless the law requires otherwise (in which case we'll tell you, unless the law prevents it);
- make sure anyone who can access it is bound by confidentiality;
- protect it with appropriate security, including encryption in transit and at rest, and access limited to what's needed;
- use only the sub-processors listed below, each under terms that protect the data in the same way, and tell you by email at least 14 days before adding or replacing one, so you can object or close your account;
- help you respond to requests from people exercising their data rights, and with security, breach notification and data protection impact assessments, as far as is reasonable given what we process;
- tell you without undue delay after becoming aware of a personal data breach affecting your data;
- delete the data when you close your account, as set out in our privacy policy, unless the law requires us to keep it;
- give you the information you reasonably need to show these obligations are being met, and allow and contribute to reasonable audits.
Our sub-processors are:
- Amazon Web Services EMEA SARL: hosting and storage, in London (UK).
- Resend: receiving and sending email, in its EU region (Ireland).
- Anthropic: the AI model that reads documents, in the United States.
Transfers outside the UK are protected by the safeguards UK law requires, such as UK adequacy regulations or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
10. General
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we'll email you at least 30 days before it takes effect; carrying on using Receipt Relay after that means you accept it. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts have exclusive jurisdiction.
